Workshops

Groups and workshops provide extraordinary opportunities for growth and change.  The DSU Booth Wellness Center has an excellent and growing group program with dedicated and professional staff. Students may also participate in our skill-building workshop series to build in order to learn coping skills and strategies to address common issues experienced by college age students.

Whatever challenges you’re facing, you can connect with others, see things from a different perspective, or learn how to manage stress, anxiety or depression. We are here for you.

The Booth Wellness Center, Human Performance Center and DSU Campus partners are hosting a wellness workshop series to include topics related to: Mental Health & Wellness, Physical Health &  Wellness,  Communication & Relationships, and Life Skills.

Skills Groups

Anxiety Toolbox (3-week workshop series) Mondays 2:00-3:00 PM (1/31, 2/7, & 2/14)

Anxiety Toolbox is a three-part series that aims to give you knowledge and tools to effectively deal with your anxiety. We discuss what anxiety is, how it is different from everyday stress, and how you can respond to unhelpful thoughts that perpetuate anxiety. We will meet weekly to have short discussions and in-class exercises as well as at-home exercises, all designed to help you practice skills learned through the sessions. The work you do in each session builds upon itself, so you are expected attend all three scheduled sessions.

Getting Unstuck (3-week workshop Series) Thursdays 3:00 -4:00 PM (2/3, 2/10, & 2/17)

Getting Unstuck is a three-part series focusing on information and skills related to dealing with depression. We discuss what depression is, the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and ways to respond to your depression in a more helpful manner. We will meet weekly to have short discussions and in-class exercises as well as at-home exercises, all designed to help you practice skills learned through the sessions. The work you do in each session builds upon itself, so you are expected attend all three scheduled sessions.

DBT Group (8-week workshop series) Thursdays 1:30 -3:00 PM starting 2/3

DBT Group is an open 8-week skills based group for university students to learn and develop coping skills & strategies to improve individual functioning. This group is specifically for clients who have difficulties in emotion regulation, interpersonal difficulties, and pattern of crises. Group members learn topics related to mindfulness skills, interpersonal effectiveness and communication strategies, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills in a structured & supportive learning environment. Each group consists of: a brief mindfulness exercise, check-in/introductions, introduction of new skills, discussion/experiential practice and an assignment of practice exercise & check-out.

 

Interpersonal Groups

Healthy Relationships Group Mondays 3:00 -4:30 PM starting 2/7

Healthy Relationships is a process-oriented group for students interested in increasing their understanding of themselves and how they relate to others. The goal of this group is to improve interpersonal relationships by examining how one contributes to relationship dynamics along with attempting to connect with others in-the-moment by sharing personal experiences. If you are struggling to understand your role in difficulties within various types of relationships, had difficulty balancing your needs with those of others, frequently disagree with others, had trouble connecting or forming relationships, or had conflict with others, you may benefit from this group.

Interpersonal Group Tuesdays 2:00 -3:00 PM starting 2/1

Interpersonal Group is a traditional process-oriented group for students interested in increasing their understanding of themselves and how they relate to others. The goal of this group is to improve interpersonal relationships and individual growth by examining oneself and in relationship to others, including connecting with others in-the-moment by sharing personal experiences. If you are wanting to engage in greater self-reflection, personal growth, and improve interpersonal relationships, you may benefit from this group.

Support Groups

All Pathways to Recovery Mondays 2:00 -3:00 PM starting 1/31

All Pathways to recovery is a peer to peer recovery support group sponsored by Utah Support Advocates for recovery Awareness (USARA) and the Booth Wellness Center.

Women to Women Support Group -TBD

Women to Women Support Group is a peer to peer group sponsored by the DSU Women’s Resource Center and the Booth Wellness Center.

LGBTQIA+ Student Support Group-TBD

This group is a peer to peer support group sponsored by the DSU Multicultural and Inclusion Center and Booth Wellness Center.

Hybrid Groups

Mindfulness Group - TBD

Mindfulness Group is an open 6-week group focused on learning mindfulness skills and strategies to better manage one’s mental health. Mindfulness is an incredibly useful skill in learning to manage stress, anxiety, and daily stressors, as well explore aspects of self-improvement and increased functioning.
